recounting heated arguments from social media is the lowest form of blogging... but i just gotta open the pressure valve.
the story so far: my GF posted a pic of a neighbor’s “Trump for President” sign with the caption “I found my village’s idiot”. Crazy tea party uncle responded (Killary, Muslim-in-chief, liars, murderers, etc.) GF suggested he block her posts from his timeline (as we’ve done with his), as she didn’t want it to effect family. He responded with the patented right wing vitriol, crescendo-ing with “fuck off” and a comment about the “pos you live with” (that’s me!)
his DAUGHTER writes in, saying that his “fuck off” was over the line - but she’s tired of the “political correctness” (i.e., of course her father would respond to the initial post)
My response to her: (which should give you an idea of history altogether, as well as what was said immediately prior):
“Oh please. When i was connected to S. on fb, i saw the paranoid, nationalistic, xenophobic claptrap he posted pop up all the time... and i ignored it for the sad, delusional ranting that it was. It is the absolute HEIGHT of comedy that the people who are constantly complaining about “political correctness” are the first ones to have their “hairtrigger sensitivity” go off when their precious ideology is questioned. A.c alled Trump supporters idiots. Ohhh, boo hoo. S.’s precious fee-fees are hurt, lets get him a blanky and some warm milk. What a joke. S. calls people MURDERERS and TERRORISTS with the same frequency that a normal person uses the word “and”!! Reform the health care system? THAT’S NAZISM!! Regulations on guns? That’s “the government controlling everybody”!!! — You wanna talk entitlement? If some middle American white guy got handcuffed for building a CLOCK, there would’ve been blood on the streets hours ago. But we all know who S. thinks the “American Dream” belongs to. There’s plenty of informed people (excuse me: “sheeple”) in this country who are happy to debate issues on their merits - but telling family members to “fuck off” isn’t the same as having “balls” - it’s crybaby chickenshit coming from someone who thinks he has room to rant about what it means to be a “real man” Treating every idea you disagree with as evil, threatening violence at every turn... that’s not just ignorance, it’s sick, paranoid COWARDICE. Trust me, i’ve got my own issues with the political system in America, but the idea that Steve’s brand of hateful rhetoric is somehow “coming from both sides” is just lazy, and entirely disconnected from reality. And if he doesn’t think he’s gonna get called out, if YOU don’t think he SHOULD get called out... who’s really looking for “political correctness”?”
can i get an amen? :)
